Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. (Global) is the largest diving contractor on the West Coast, based out of Seattle, WA, a leading provider of marine construction and infrastructure support services in the United States, and an internationally recognized casualty responder.

We are currently seeking a Hydrographic Survey Technician to join our team in California. This position is responsible for supporting bathymetric survey bays, lakes and rivers, and other navigable waterways. The Hydrographic Survey Technician will work in conjunction with a Team Lead and Clients in various facilities including several laboratories such as Chemistry, Metallurgical, Welding, Non-destructive testing facilities, Electrical testing (failure testing and smart grid), Calibration laboratory, and Performance testing. This position will perform bathymetric, hydrographic, and depths of utility projects, and maintain field equipment and survey vessels.



Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operate bathymetric equipment including multi beam echo sounders, single beam echo sounders, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, GPS survey instruments, utility locating equipment, and small boats
Make precise bathymetric and depth of utility measurements using conventional and state of the art surveying instruments
Make and interpret survey calculations
Research, analyze, check, and adjust bathymetric and depth of utility survey data
Operate small survey vessels
Prepare CADD drawings and maps from field data, field notes, and office data
Prepare a plan and profile CADD drawings, depth contours, or other special drawings
Ability to perform complex mathematical computations and be able to check calculations of others.

Qualifications

Education

Associate Degree in Hydrographic Science, or related field required
Bachelor’s Degree in Hydrographic Science, or related field preferred


Experience

2 years of related experience in hydrographic or related field required
Experience with Trimble Business Center, AutoCad Civil 3D, GIS, or Bentley InRoads/Microstation, HYPACK or other bathymetric surveying software preferred
Experience with Trimble Data Collectors and Access, survey grade GPS systems and depth of utility survey equipment preferred
Knowledge in marine environments and boating skills preferred


Knowledge/Skills

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word required
Experience with Multi beam Echo Sounder and GPS survey techniques required
Experience with hydrographic data acquisition and processing software required
Experience with CADD, and GIS required
Advanced verbal and written communication skills required
Excellent interpersonal and team skills required
Experience demonstrating safe working practices required
Ability to use computers and highly specialized bathymetric surveying equipment required


Physical / Mental Requirements

Ability to perform work in an office setting
Ability to perform work in a field setting
Available to travel as needed (60% travel anticipated)
Ability to work from survey vessels 10-30 feet in size
